Description
This is a less invasive form of bone augmentation, which allows the maxillary sinus membrane to be lifted without directly exposing it, through a hole drilled for the implant.
What does the procedure look like?
-
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia.
-
The surgeon makes a hole in the bone at the site of the planned implant.
-
Through this opening, the membrane of the maxillary sinus is gently lifted, and the resulting space is filled with bone substitute material.
-
Often the implant is placed immediately during the same procedure.
Advantages of the closed method:
-
Less invasive than the open method
-
Shorter healing time
-
Lower risk of complications
-
Can be combined with immediate implantation
When can this method be used?
-
When 2 to 4 mm of vertical die is missing
-
When the sinus mucosa is healthy and without inflammation
-
When the patient has good general conditions for implantation
